Julie Oberle in Michetschlager's workshopJulie's award was for funding to purchase fittings for the cello she plans to make in her final year at Newark.  She also undertook a work placement with Helen Michetschläger in Manchester.  Julie writes about the placement:

"I spent two weeks in Helen Michetschläger’s workshop. She had just begun a cello, so I helped her with some preparation work like thicknessing  ribs and linings, squaring the neck block, and bending linings.  I also made a cello fingerboard, which was really interesting.

It was such a great experience: I learnt so much in this time, her explanations were always very clear and I could ask all the questions I wanted (and got answers!).  I felt very lucky to be there, and had a great time. I’m sure what I learnt will really help me for my third year and the cello I’ve begun."
