Adam was awarded a grant which he used to purchase sound post setters, retrievers, peg reamers, some second hand carving tools, and some plane blades for some arching planes made at West Dean.

The set-up tools were used to complete a the 7-string Bass viol after the Nicolas Bertrand 1704 that I completed during my final year at West Dean, as well as a Tenor viol after Henry Jaye, a treble viol after John Rose, and a 7-string viol after Lewis.  The carving tools and gouges were used during the construction of the Bertrand 1704 during my final term at school.

The RAB Trust also arranged  work placement with Philip Brown went well.  Adam writes of this:

"I spent 2 weeks at his shop concentrating largely on bow refurbishment, instrument set-up and sound adjustment.  This opportunity proved to be a valuable exposure to a commercial shop setting and different methods of doing things."
