Vincent has a big interest in the double bass, and was therefore awarded a work placement at Malcolm Healey's workshop and money to buy a book, "the setup and repair of double bass for optimum sound" by Chuck Treager. He writes:
“I bought the book and added some extra money to get some bass drawings, which was really helpful to me (and still is) to get my brain on the bass level of instrument making.
I learnt a lot by studying those, but nothing compare to the work placement at Malcolm's workshop where I stayed for a week.
There I learnt how to properly set up double basses, and carry out common repairs such as opening a bass by taking a front off, sorting out a crack, replacing worn edges and fitting new bass bars. Malcolm and Vilma gave me a very warm welcome and I really thank them a lot for that as I was a bit afraid to step in a major UK bass workshop.
I went there with the front and the back of the bass I'm making and Malcolm showed me some very important things about my archings.
Back to school I'm now about to finish that bass, which I'll definitely take to London to have master Healey's judgement.
I can only thanks you & all the RAB trust team for what you did; for me and for all the students your are helping.”
