Patrick was given funding towards a week's bowmaking course in Cambridge with Jan Kudanowski. Patrick writes of this experience:

"The week long course with Jan was the perfect introduction for someone like myself, that has no playing experience, to become familiar with bows and their mechanics.  The speed of the course was such that none of us had the chance to over think any steps in the making process and we learned so much by simply watching Jan make alongside us.  We focused on making the stick and used partially made frogs (which makes since due to time restraints) but we did go over the things to do in making a frog.  I can't think of a better way to be introduced to the process of bow making.  Jan also went over with each of us individually the steps in hairing and rehairing a bow which is an important and necessary skill for an instrument maker.  Thank you again for the award.
