Michal comes from Prague and was awarded a grant during his first year at West Dean College, which he used to buy a selection of woodworking planes.  He was awarded a further grant during his second year, which went towards the purchase of more tools.  

The photographs show work completed during the course - a violin with baroque set-up based on the Stradivari 'Maurin' of 1718, below (in the white) a copy of a 1709 seven-string bass viol by Claude Pierray, and (varnished) a copy of a 1679 bass viol of John Pitts.
